Saturday Morning Run

Saturdays are rugby days so if I wanted to get some exercise in today, I knew I had to do it in the morning. My trainer asked me go run for another 45 minutes today.
I had a great run although it was harder than Thursday’s run. It was tough because it was so hot outside. It didn’t take long before I was covered in sweat. I should’ve also worn a hat to protect myself from the sun. I went to go run by the water so I would get a nice breeze. It was beautiful out. I’m so happy I’ve started running again. I’m happy it’s a part of my new program!

Dinner Date

I had a pretty busy Friday. I worked during the day and then ran errands in the afternoon. I finally had the time to take care of things I had been meaning to do for a while. After running around all afternoon, my boyfriend suggested we go out for supper. I couldn’t remember the last time we went out for dinner just the two of us so I agreed to a much-needed night out! I knew I had to pick one of the healthier options if I ate out. My boyfriend has been really supportive of my plan to lose weight so he didn’t want to pressure me to eat out if it didn’t work for me. I agreed to go out because I was dying for a dinner date. My meal plan can feel repetitive and restrictive at times so it felt nice to change it up for once.
We went to go eat at Scarolie’s. It was delicious! I stuck to a salad with chicken so I could get my veggies and protein. I may have snuck in a few bites of my boyfriend’s pasta (hihi). I controlled myself without restricting myself. It felt good to get out of the house and not cook for once! We agreed that we need to treat ourselves more often but it won’t be for another month or two. I still have a diet to follow and a goal in mind. I just have to find the balance between focusing on my goals while enjoying life at the same time.

Caught In The Rain

My trainer asked me to go for a 45 minute run today. I was excited because I hadn’t run that much in a while. I only had a small window of time in the afternoon to do it. I was about to go out for my run and then it started to rain! Thankfully it only lasted a few minutes. There were blue skies in the distance so I left as soon as the rain stopped. I was just over half way through my run when it started raining again. At first, the mist was refreshing but by the end, I was all wet! I still kept running and in a way it made the run more interesting. It distracted me and I forgot I was running.
It didn’t rain for long. The roads were dry a few blocks again. Overall, the run went by quickly. I was happy to be outside running even if it meant getting a little wet!

Meet My New Trainer Nick!

IMG_3100
I started with my new trainer Nick today. He’s one of our new trainers at the gym. He joined the team at the beginning of the summer. His client’s love him and have seen a lot of progress while training with him so now it’s his turn to train me. He’s going to help lose weight and help prepare me for my competition. When he found out he was my new trainer, he told me “Prepare to sweat!”
Oh boy did I sweat today! I warmed up on the rowing machine. I had to row 500m as fast as possible. I then moved on to a circuit I had to complete 3 times as fast as possible. The first exercise was a wall throw with a weighted ball with a burpee. For the second exercise, I was in a plank position and I had to move my hands onto a step and off to the other side, while keeping my feet in the same position. The third exercise was kettle bell swings. I was sweating throughout the circuit and I didn’t take any breaks.
I moved onto oblique crunches on the rope machine. Afterwards, I had to pull the rope towards me while I held a squat position for 200 ft. My arms were burning!! After 200 ft, I had to do 5 burpees. I repeated the circuit 3 times. My arms were dead by the end of it. I moved onto 2 dropsets on the hamstring curl machine. I then did walking lunges across the gym followed by oblique twists on the cable machine.
We did some more cardio at the end. I did Tabata style interval training on a spin bike: 10 seconds standing, 5 seconds sitting, for 10 rounds. It got my heart rate up and I could feel it in my legs. We ended the session with a short ab circuit.
Overall, it was a great first session! I was sweating and I worked hard the whole session as I didn’t get any breaks. I can’t wait to see what else he has planned for me!

Short Cardio Work Out

I had a pretty busy day today. I had an orientation for my new internship at Concordia. I’ll be working with the Concordia football team as an Athletic Therapist during their upcoming season. Training camp starts next week so these next couple of days are all that I have left of my summer vacation. It went by way too quickly! All the interns met yesterday and today to go over the guidelines, how things work in the clinic and we review some of the techniques we learn it class. It was a good refresher.
Since I was busy all day, I had to get my work out in at night. I went to do half an hour of cardio: 10 minutes on the stairmaster, 15 minutes on the treadmill, and a 5 minute ride on the bike. It was simple and quick. It’s going to be difficult to continue training with school coming up. I have to make room in my schedule and make sure I get a little something in every day.
I want to thank everyone for their support through out this journey! A lot of people have been congratulating me on my progress pictures and it’s exciting to know every can see how all my hard work is finally paying off. The change my body has gone through in the last couple of months is unbelievable. It hasn’t been an easy journey but I will continue to put in the work every day to achieve my goal!

Crushin' Quads

I had a late night session planned with my trainer. I had to take a pre-workout as I felt really tired. As usual Mondays are leg day. I’m usually always sore after leg day but my quads are never sore. It’s always my hamstrings or my glutes. I think Alex made it his mission to really work my quads tonight to make sure they’re sore tomorrow.
I started with back squats and squat jumps. After each round, we increased my weight and also the number of squat jump repetitions. It definitely tired out my legs. The second superset involved bulgarian split squats with a 3 second hold at the bottom and jumping split squats. I increased the number of jumps after each round. The last few reps were always so difficult. My legs were dead!
I then moved on to leg extensions. Again, I had to hold the contraction for 3 seconds. I then did 2 minutes on the stairmaster to get my cardio going. I repeated this 4 times. I ended with a glute exercise on the Smith machine and mountain climbers.
I had a good work out considering I was tired. It felt great to work out after my day off and it’s given me the motivation to keep it up all week!

Flat Tire

My day did not start according to plan. As I was driving home from my friend’s house this morning, I realized that I had a flat on my front tire. I was in shock. I pulled over to a side street off of Monkland to fix my tire. I knew how to change the tire but I never had to do it on my own before. As I have an old car, it was really hard to get the bolts off my tire. I tried everything. I used my gym strength to try to move the wrench but it didn’t budge. I even used my foot and nothing happened. I eventually called for help and my parents came to the rescue. My dad changed my tire and followed me to the garage. Thankfully, there was a garage open on a Sunday and I was able to fix the leak on my tire. It was an adventurous morning and I’m so thankful for my parent’s help.
I got home at 2 and finally had the chance to eat. I didn’t have breakfast so I was starving. I was craving a smoothie so I had my usual breakfast smoothie. The flat tire threw off my whole day so I couldn’t stick to the fast and I didn’t eat according to my meal plan. I felt tired all day and when I’m tired, I snack. I cheated a bit today. I know I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t resist the cravings. I also didn’t get to go to the gym and I feel really guilty. It wasn’t the best day on my plan but tomorrow is a new day, new week and I’m going to use it to start over. I’ll be on my best behaviour regarding my meal plan and I’m going to kick some butt at the gym. It’s ok to fall once in a while. You just have to find the strength to start over again tomorrow!
